The Rhine is one of the longest rivers in Europe. It rises in Swiss Alps, and 820 miles later it empties into the North Sea through the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta just south of Amsterdam. The Rhine is also the busiest river in Europe. Duisport, just north of Dusseldorf, is the largest inland port in the world, handling more than 40 million tons of goods from over 20,000 ships each year.

An Australian acquaintance said "this is another ABC cruise." By ABC she meant “Another Blooming Cathedral.” (She actually used the common Australian adjective rather than blooming.”) She could have substituted “castle” for “cathedral,” because one or the other seemed to be the main attraction just about everywhere we went.
